DBT in Schools: Life-skills brought to your school by Cayuga County Mental Health
What is DBT in Schools?
In today’s challenging world, students are confronted with unique emotional and social pressures. Whether it’s dealing with peer pressure, managing expectations or coping with self-confidence, these challenges can become overpowering. This is where DBT in Schools can make a huge difference.
Originally created for a one-to-one therapy context for adults, DBT – which is short for “Dialectic Behavioral Therapy” – has been adapted for use our county’s students, to help individuals manage emotions, build healthy relationships, and cope with stress by balancing acceptance and change.
Please note: Each school district in the county that adopts this optional program will have a DBT specialist/onsite therapist in school a couple of days a week to instruct the teaching staff how to adapt the skills into their classrooms. Such specialists will also be available for one-on-one sessions.
